“Women Footbal Rising Stars”: Tuva Olaussen Sagen – Difensore del Como Women e della Nazionale Norvegese Under 19

Ci sono film che non raccontano solo una storia, ma sembrano mettere in scena un pezzo di noi, scavando tra le pieghe della memoria. “Now and Then – Quattro amiche per sempre”, diretto da Lesli Linka Glatter, è uno di questi. Un racconto che intreccia l’adolescenza e l’età adulta, facendo emergere il potere indissolubile di certi legami. Demi Moore, Melanie Griffith, Rosie O’Donnell e Rita Wilson, interpreti delle amiche cresciute, si ritrovano anni dopo quell’estate del 1970 che ha cambiato tutto. Accanto a loro, le versioni giovani, affidate al talento di Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, Gaby Hoffmann e Ashleigh Aston Moore, danno vita a momenti che non sono soltanto nostalgia, ma il cuore pulsante del nostro passato.

“Non importa dove la vita ci porta o quanto ci allontaniamo, ci sarà sempre quella parte di noi che appartiene al passato e alle persone che ci hanno amato per come eravamo.”

Questa frase, che riecheggia nel film come un mantra, è una lente attraverso cui leggere la nostra stessa esistenza. Perché, in fondo, tutti abbiamo vissuto esperienze che ci hanno segnato non tanto per la loro perfezione, ma per il valore che hanno avuto nel definirci. E spesso accade che quelle stesse persone, magari perdute di vista per anni, ritornino. A volte le riconosciamo immediatamente, altre serve un istante in più per ritrovare lo stesso sguardo complice di allora.

“Now and Then” ci ricorda che la memoria non è un album di fotografie perfette, ma un mosaico di momenti imperfetti e preziosi. E che, quando si incrocia di nuovo lo sguardo di chi ha condiviso un frammento di quel mosaico, il passato diventa presente, e il cerchio si chiude.

Quante volte ci è accaduto nella vita di incontrare di nuovo una persona con la quale si è vissuta un’esperienza del passato rimasta nella memoria per la sua bellezza, per il valore che aveva o semplicemente per il contesto in cui si è vissuta? Talvolta si tratta di un amico d’infanzia, altre volte di un compagno di università, talvolta un amore del passato, ad ogni modo situazioni che diventano speciali per l’emozione che scaturiscono.

Qualcosa di molto simile accaduto a due ragazze che non troppo tempo fa, nell’estate del 2019, si ritrovarono a vivere un’esperienza calcistica nel magnifico scenario di Roma, con una maglia giallorossa e lontano alcune migliaia di chilometri da casa. A distanza di 5 anni esatti quelle due ragazzine si ritrovano ancora una volta in Italia, con una maglia diversa e qualche esperienza in più, ma con la stessa voglia di costruire insieme qualcosa di importante.

“Si, me lo ricordo bene. Feci un provino per un grande club come la Roma e in generale fu un’esperienza incredibile in una città fantastica che mi è rimasta nel cuore. Per quanto breve mi ha molto motivata a continuare e a lavorare duro per migliorare. Con me c’erano tante calciatrici giovani e anche Mina Schaathun Bergersen, che ho ritrovato qui al Como.” La voce che ci racconta questa avventura e tanti altri piccoli aneddoti della sua giovane carriera è Tuva Olaussen Sagen, difensore centrale norvegese classe 2007 approdata lo scorso ottobre al Como Women.

Per la giovane calciatrice nordica giocare a calcio è qualcosa di estremamente naturale, vivendo in un contesto nel quale il pallone fa parte dell’ambiente e sei destinata inevitabilmente e renderlo parte della tua vita. “L’approccio con il calcio è stato qualcosa di normale perché ho vissuto in una famiglia appassionata di questo sport e con amici che lo praticavano. All’inizio giocare era puro ed assoluto divertimento, poi mi sono resa conto che me ne stavo innamorando, non soltanto insieme agli altri ma anche da sola”.

La logica conseguenza che si lega alla passione è poter praticare il calcio non soltanto sotto casa ma anche in un vero campo di gioco con coloro che condividono con te il legame con questo sport, potendo anche contare su una famiglia disposta a darti una mano. “Ho cominciato a giocare a 5 anni al Nykirke un piccolo club, per poi trasferirmi al Borre dove ho vissuto un periodo molto bello ed appassionante e dove credo di aver capito che il calcio stava diventando una parte importante della mia vita. Dopo alcuni anni, ho deciso di cambiare di nuovo e vivere un’esperienza nuova trasferendomi al Ohil dove sono rimasta per ben 3 anni e dove ho continuato i miei studi fino a quest’anno, quando ho accettato la proposta di venire al Como Women.”

Nel viaggio vissuto cambiando maglia, la costante è rappresentata dalla famiglia, fondamentale e sempre presente anche quando il campo di gioco non era proprio dietro l’angolo. “Oltre il supporto costante, i miei genitori sono stati sempre presenti e disponibili, anche quando si trattava di mettersi in macchina e farsi un’ora e mezza di viaggio per accompagnarmi ad Oslo. Ho sempre sentito forte la loro presenza e questo mi ha dato un grande sostegno.”

Proprio all’Ohil la carriera di Tuva prende una direzione chiara perché con 45 partite giocate rivela le sue capacità ed il suo talento di difensore centrale. Eppure, gli inizi l’hanno vista muoversi in un’altra zona del campo che però le ha consentito di acquisire skill utili per la sua formazione e per la sua crescita. “Ho cominciato come centrocampista nelle squadre di club. Poi quando sono stata convocata in Under 15 l’allenatore mi ha spostata in difesa perché non avevamo calciatrici in quel ruolo. Mi dicevano che ero alta ed avevo una buona capacità di passaggio, pertanto il mio ruolo ideale sarebbe stato quello. Non ero inizialmente convinta, però dopo alcuni anni mi sono convinta a dare retta ai miei allenatori ed ho continuato pertanto a giocare come difensore centrale.”

Tornando al percorso ed ai vari cambi, l’Ohil rappresenta di fatto l’esperienza più fondante che le consente di acquisire quella consapevolezza tipica di chi sa già cosa l’aspettasse nel prossimo futuro. “Il calcio ha sempre fatto parte della mia vita e ho sempre avuto consapevolezza del fatto che ero fatta per giocare. È chiaro che con il trascorrere degli anni, le partite e le prime convocazioni in Nazionale ho capito che stavo realizzando un sogno che mi avrebbe portato a diventare una calciatrice professionista.”

Il 5 Ottobre 2024 l’annuncio del trasferimento al Como Women segna un’ulteriore tappa di crescita per Tuva. Una scelta inizialmente non facile per molteplici motivi ma che si è poi rivelata la migliore che potesse fare. “Sono stata inizialmente in dubbio, mi sentivo troppo giovane e sentivo il peso di allontanarmi dalla mia famiglia e dai miei amici. Ma adesso, dopo 5 mesi che sono arrivata, sono molto felice. Sin dall’inizio è stato tutto molto bello e, inoltre, oggi posso concentrarmi e focalizzarmi sul calcio al 100%. In Norvegia non avevo questa opportunità, pertanto sono assolutamente contenta di aver fatto questa scelta.”

Nonostante un’ascesa importante che la porta a vestire le maglie delle Nazionali giovanili, a dimostrazione di un talento e di una bravura riconosciuta in maniera indiscutibile, Tuva sa di dover lavorare molto e di migliorare molti aspetti del suo essere difensore per poter coronare il sogno di vestire un giorno la maglia della Nazionale più importante e rappresentativa. “Credo di essere un buon difensore ma devo migliorare molto nella rapidità e nella gestione dei duelli. Il calcio evolve ed evolvono anche le avversarie, pertanto devo cercare di lavorare per essere sempre più pronta ed efficace anche nelle marcature. E credo che il Como Women, che ha un progetto ambizioso di crescita, potrà offrirmi questa opportunità.”

Nella testa di Tuva non ci sono idoli ai quali ispirarsi per trarne spunto. C’è però un giocatore che la appassiona, totalmente diverso da lei per ruolo, fisicità e modalità di stare in campo. Il motivo è presto detto ed è assolutamente condivisibile per chi ha forti ambizioni come la calciatrice norvegese. “Ogni volta che ho tempo e da quando sono piccola mi collego su Youtube scrivo sempre lo stesso nome. Messi. Dribbling, punizioni, gol lui sa fare qualsiasi cosa con il pallone e lo ritengo in assoluto il miglior giocatore al mondo. Lui rappresenta in qualche modo il mio grande sogno, ovvero quello di diventare la migliore in assoluto.”

Come la trama di un film, il racconto di Tuva, che prende spunto dal passato per raccontare il presente, proiettandosi nel futuro, si rivela perfettamente allineato al film citato all’inizio. “Now and Then” è esattamente ciò che, in poche righe, abbiamo raccontato. Una calciatrice capace di definirsi, a fronte di un’esperienza calcistica già importante, che torna in quel paese dove aveva vissuto l’impatto della lontananza, per capire quanto il calcio fosse importante per la sua vita. Ritrovando una compagna di viaggio con al quale continuare a condividere quei giorni e farli diventare presente. Chiudendo un cerchio perfetto.

There are films that don’t just tell a story but seem to stage a part of us, delving into the folds of memory. Now and Then, directed by Lesli Linka Glatter, is one of them. A story intertwining adolescence and adulthood, it reveals the unbreakable power of certain bonds. Demi Moore, Melanie Griffith, Rosie O’Donnell, and Rita Wilson, playing the grown-up friends, reunite years after that summer of 1970 that changed everything. Alongside them, the younger versions brought to life by the talents of Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, Gaby Hoffmann, and Ashleigh Aston Moore create moments that are not just nostalgic but the beating heart of our past.

This line, echoing through the film like a mantra, serves as a lens to read our own existence. Because, ultimately, we’ve all experienced moments that marked us not for their perfection, but for the value they had in defining us. And often, those same people, perhaps lost from view for years, return. Sometimes we recognize them immediately; other times, it takes a moment to rediscover that same knowing glance from back then.

Now and Then reminds us that memory isn’t a photo album of perfect snapshots but a mosaic of imperfect and precious moments. And when we once again lock eyes with someone who shared a fragment of that mosaic, the past becomes the present, and the circle closes.

How many times in life have we encountered someone with whom we shared a meaningful experience from the past—one etched in memory for its beauty, its value, or simply the context in which it unfolded? Sometimes it’s a childhood friend, a university companion, or even a past love situation that become special for the emotions they spark.

Something very similar happened to two girls not too long ago, in the summer of 2019, when they shared a soccer experience in the magnificent setting of Rome, wearing a yellow and red jersey, thousands of kilometers away from home. Five years later, those two young women find themselves together again in Italy, with a different jersey and a few more experiences under their belts, but with the same desire to build something important together.

“Yes, I remember it well. I did a trial for a major club like Roma, and overall, it was an incredible experience in a fantastic city that has stayed in my heart. As brief as it was, it really motivated me to keep going and work hard to improve. There were many young players with me, including Mina Schaathun Bergersen, whom I’ve now reunited with here at Como.” The voice recounting this adventure and many other anecdotes from her young career is Tuva Olaussen Sagen, a Norwegian center-back born in 2007, who joined Como Women this past October.

For the young Nordic player, playing soccer feels entirely natural, growing up in an environment where the sport is part of everyday life and inevitably becomes part of your own. “My introduction to soccer was something normal because I grew up in a family passionate about the sport, surrounded by friends who played it. At first, playing was pure fun, but then I realized I was falling in love with it not just with others, but on my own too.”

Passion logically leads to the desire to play not only close to home but also on a real field with others who share that connection to the game, with the support of a family willing to help. “I started playing at five years old at Nykirke, a small club, then moved to Borre, where I had a wonderful and exciting time and realized soccer was becoming an important part of my life. After a few years, I decided to change again and try something new, joining Øhil, where I stayed for three years and continued my studies until this year when I accepted the offer to come to Como Women.”

Throughout her journey of changing teams, one constant has been her family, a crucial and ever-present support even when the soccer field wasn’t just around the corner. “Besides their constant support, my parents were always there for me, even when it meant getting in the car and driving an hour and a half to take me to Oslo. I’ve always felt their presence strongly, and it’s been a great source of strength for me.”

It was at Øhil that Tuva’s career took a clear direction, as she played 45 matches, showcasing her abilities and talent as a central defender. Yet, her early days saw her in a different position on the field, which allowed her to develop skills useful for her growth and development. “I started as a midfielder in club teams. Then, when I was called up for the Under-15s, the coach moved me to defense because we didn’t have players in that role. They told me I was tall and had good passing skills, so that position was ideal for me. At first, I wasn’t convinced, but after a few years, I decided to trust my coaches and continued playing as a center-back.”

Looking back at her path and the various changes, Øhil represents a formative experience that gave her the self-awareness of someone who knows what’s ahead. “Soccer has always been part of my life, and I’ve always been aware that I was meant to play. It’s clear that as the years went by, with matches and my first national team call-ups, I realized I was living a dream that would lead me to become a professional soccer player.”

On October 5, 2024, the announcement of her transfer to Como Women marked another step in Tuva’s growth. A choice that initially wasn’t easy for various reasons but turned out to be the best she could have made. “At first, I was doubtful. I felt too young and struggled with the thought of leaving my family and friends. But now, five months after arriving, I’m very happy. From the start, everything has been great, and I can now fully focus on soccer. In Norway, I didn’t have this opportunity, so I’m absolutely glad I made this choice.”

Despite her remarkable rise, which has seen her don the jerseys of youth national teams—evidence of undeniable talent and skill—Tuva knows she must work hard and improve many aspects of her game as a defender to achieve her dream of one day wearing the most prestigious and representative national jersey. “I think I’m a good defender, but I need to improve a lot in speed and managing duels. Soccer evolves, and so do opponents, so I need to work to be more prepared and effective in marking. I believe Como Women, with its ambitious growth project, can offer me this opportunity.”

Tuva doesn’t have idols to emulate, but there is one player she admires—completely different from her in role, physique, and style. The reason is clear and entirely relatable for someone with strong ambitions like the Norwegian player. “Whenever I have time and since I was little, I go on YouTube and always type in the same name: Messi. Dribbling, free kicks, goals—he can do anything with the ball, and I consider him the best player in the world. In some way, he represents my big dream: to become the absolute best.”

Like the plot of a film, Tuva’s story, which draws from the past to narrate the present while projecting into the future, aligns perfectly with the movie mentioned at the start. Now and Then is exactly what we’ve described in a few lines: a soccer player defining herself through an already significant sporting journey, returning to the country where she first felt the impact of distance, to understand how deeply soccer mattered in her life. Reuniting with a fellow traveler to continue sharing those days and turn them into the present, completing a perfect circle.
